Dante Gabriel Rossetti (12 May 1828 – 09 April 1882) was an English poet, illustrator, painter, and translator.

Following the exhibition of the artist William Holman Hunt's painting "The Eve of St. Agnes", Rossetti sought out Hunt's friendship. Together they developed the philosophy of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
